Things have been
happening so fast around here that I hardly know where
to begin. But I'll do my best. The first order of
business is to thank you for your support. As of this
week, we have over 2,000 products and have more on the
way and we owe it all to you our loyal customer base.
Cristian Tabush
coming aboard is a big score for us and our customers. He
has an amazing amount of competitive racing experience and
can tune cars better than anyone I know, and I know lots of
folks in the biz. We have already built some wicked cars
employing his skills, and have a lot more on the way. You
can check out some of his
racing platforms here.
Next I'll talk
about the newsletter. Last week Chris my IT guy came to me
and said, "Rob, we have 16,000 e-mail addresses, and I think
we should do a newsletter. After picking my jaw up off the
floor and dusting it off I said one word, "how". He
proceeded to explain how he harvested the order history, the
mail server message logs and combined them with our current
mail list database to create the M.O.A.L., Mother of All
Lists. Why do computer geeks love acronyms so much anyway?.
Bottom line is that if you have ever ordered, e-mailed or
signed up for the list you are in the newsletter database.
We haven't done many newsletters because we are already so
busy, and I'm actually a little afraid of what may happen as
a result of this, but I wrote a newsletter, took a deep
breath and clicked send and I'm still holding it right now.

Say Hello to Cristian Tabush |
|
Hey
guys! I’m Cristian, the new guy around here and this is my first
write up of many more to come.
First of all, I have to say this has got to be one of the coolest
jobs on planet earth. How many of you out there can say that you make a
living while enjoying your hobby? I must admit, when Rob first
approached me I was a little skeptical about taking the position
because it seemed too good to be true. So after a great deal of
thought (all of 5 minutes) I decided to come on board.
I’m a hobbyist at heart and have been racing and playing with R/C
cars of various scales for 17 years. My dad was also an avid racer
so he got me into R/C at the age of eight. A few years back, a small
group of my old racing buddies bought some mini Z’s and a small RCP
track and started racing. At first I didn't take the 1:28th cars
seriously, I kept thinking they were just toys, which the early ones
really were. Then I saw one of the newer generation Z’s. It was an
MR02 RM with a disk damper system on it, all I could say was WOW,
I need to try one of those!”. One pull of the trigger and I was
hooked and bought one the very next day. A year and a half later,
several thousand dollars worth of cars and hop-ups and a PN
World Cup title later, I find myself here, at AtomicMods.com.
Now to the future- I’ve come here and brought my knowledge about
mini Z’s and the hobby in general to help make AtomicMods.com into an
even better place to fix your R/C addiction.

We've
come a long way baby! |

Looking back to
the days when we all worked out of Rob's personal
workshop always make us grin. You see it was a tiny part
of the garage that Rob converted into a workshop
designed for one skinny person; himself. There was not
enough room for someone to walk behind you without
shoving your knees into the bench, which held boards,
saw blades, tools and all sorts of other spiky things
that were not knee friendly at all.

1208 N Post
Oak Workshop Today |
The current
workshop is located at 1208 N Post Oak, in Houston,
Texas and is much larger and better organized since it
was designed from the start for our purposes. Rob
installed all the latest test equipment, tools and even
a fume extraction system. We have expanded the shop once
already since moving it to 1208 N Post Oak. The first
expansion was to take over half of Rob's office, which
he was not too happy about since he now has a broom
closet sized office. We are now preparing to take over
Chris the IT guys office since he is right next to the
shop. Chris doesn't need much room anyway, we plan to
put him in a file cabinet with a laptop and toss in the
occasional pizza. Anyway, if you
haven't seen the expanded shop,
visit the web cam and take a look around.

Team AtomicMods Hits the Road! |
|
 |
|
Cristian and Rob will be at the Columbus North High School
in Columbus, Indiana for the
AtomicMods Race for Education 2006. There will be
several classes of Mini-Z as well as XMOD racing and
even drag racing with a true drag timing system!
Check out the videos of last years racing here. We are
also setting up
VRC racing simulators so you can try your hand at
virtual racing and there is even a live band. The event is
open to the public and is sure to be big fun, so if you are
going to be in the area, be sure to drop in and see us. And
the icing on the cake is that Cristian will be putting on
some driving workshops, so don't miss this chance to learn
from a world class driver.

Inside Scoop on the Mini-Z Auto Scale Body Sets |
|
 |
|
Ever wonder why some
Auto Scale bodies cannot be found? Its like this, there is a
small group of Japanese gnomes that make only so many of
them. These are sold to dealers and some dealers buy a lot
and some only a few, when these are gone the gnomes won't
make any more for several months, or even years. Sometimes
you will see bodies selling on e-Bay for prices that make
even the gnomes cringe. In fact we have quite a few
customers who will buy lots of bodies and then sit on them
until they are off the market then post them on e-bay.
Our approach is
this, we buy every single Auto Scale body that Kyosho has
available. So if it is currently available, we will have it
in stock and ready to ship.

Ceramics in Stock! |
So what's the big deal with ceramic
bearings?
Ceramic bearings are superior
because of greatly reduced rolling resistance. In fact a
standard bearing has 22 times more friction than a
ceramic bearing. They also last up to 10 times longer
than regular bearings. They are also stiffer side to
side which makes the car track better and
straighter.
Why the heck do ceramic bearings cost so much?
The reason they cost so much is the Star Wars like
manufacturing process which involves magnetic levitation
and yes, even plasma beams. Find them here:
