Tutorial Sealing a Carbon Fiber Chassis
Carbon fiber has lots of advantages, and this is not the place to extol them, but we do want to address a weakness. If you do not properly seal your edges and have a nasty crash, the carbon fiber layers can actually separate ruining the integrity of your chassis. We call this delaminating and its not a pretty sight. Its very easy to seal your carbon fiber chassis and can save you some heartache.
Required Items
Carbon Fiber Chassis
400 Grit Sand Paper
Super Glue
Step 1
First thing you need to do is scuff up the edges to allow the glue to stick better. Really the grit is not important, but the smoother sandpaper will leave a slicker finish look better when you are done.
Step 2
With a Q-Tip, wipe glue all around the edges.
Step 3
That's it, now you can finish building your car and you won't have to worry about your beautiful carbon fiber chassis delaminating.
Notes: Some like to use zip kicker around the edge before gluing the chassis. Either method yields the same results, so we take the simpler route.
