If you run a Generation 1 XMOD, you may need to install a pinion on a motor. The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to properly do it. If you are buying a motor from us we will install it for you if you select that option when making your purchase
Required Items
- A Bench Vise
- Electricians Tape (3 inches)
- 7/16 inch washer with a 3/16 inch opening
Step 1
Take the washer and place it onto the electricians tape. Cut electricians tape away from the center hole of the washer.
Step 2
Notice that the hole for the shaft on one end of the pinion has a bevel in it. This is used to guide the pinion over the shaft. You will want to beveled end to face the motor when installing it.
Step 3
Loosely place the pinion on the shaft of the motor and press it as far as you can with your fingers to get it in place for the next step.
Step 4
Now place the pinion and motor into the vise. The pinion should be flush against the washer with the hole for the shaft matched up with the hole in the washer.
Step 5
All that’s left is to slowly close the vise jaws until the shaft hits the vise face. This will result in the motor shaft protruding approximately past the end of the pinion the same thickness as the washer.
