Tutorial 1:28 XMODS Evolution V2 Installation

One of the single biggest inquiries we get at AtomicMods is how to install a V2 board on an XMOD EVO. The V2 is a great upgrade for XMODs, especially if you want to run hotter modified motors like the Atomic Evolution Series Chili.

The following tutorial will show you how to install a V2 board on the EVO series of XMODs. It is very important that you look at and learn the wiring diagram on Step 1 to fully understand the terms used and steps taken to complete the installation. Aside from that, the tutorial is fairly simple and can be done in under an hour from beginning to end.

Required Items

  • Solder
  • Solder Wick
  • Soldering Iron
  • Side Cut Nippers
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Reamer
  • V2 Board
  • Sharpie
  • Razor Blade
  • AtomicMods Superflex wire
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Super Stick Tape

Step 1

Learn this diagram on the left. We will be referencing the terms used on this diagram to simplify the process of the installation.

Step 2

Start by removing the motor wires from the main board.

Step 3

Remove the screws from the motor strap.

Step 4

Out comes the motor!

Step 5

Now remove the screws from the top deck in order to expose the main board.

Step 6

Once exposed, find the red and black power wires coming from the batteries and unsolder them from the main board.

Step 7

Remove the screw holding down the main board.

Step 8

Flip the main board over and find the connections from the battery terminals and remove the wires. The picture on the left shows the location of the black wire.

Step 9

The red wire is located on the opposite side.

To this point, both V2 Installations are the same. If you are keeping the stock battery tray, continue on. If you are making your car Pro Ready, you'll want to follow the Pro Ready V2 Installation Tutorial.

Step 10

Take some AtomicMods Superflex wire and solder it to the positive battery power output.

Step 11

The black wire goes to the negative power output.

Step 12

Now you can re-attach the main board to the chassis with the original screw.

Step 13

Next you must find some small gauge wire to solder to the main board original power inputs. The ones that come from the battery power outputs should work well here.

Step 14

Now tin the original motor outputs with some solder.

Step 15

Again, take some small gauge wire (24-26 gauge should work) and solder it to the original motor power outputs.

Step 16

You need to modify the top deck slightly. Use a Unibit or a reamer to make a hole as shown on the left.

Step 17

This is what it should look like.

Step 18

Place the top deck over the car, and mark approximately where the power wires come out through the front.

Step 19

With your side cutters, cut off the section which you marked. This should be done for both sides.

Step 20

You can now re-install the top deck on your car. Make sure all of the wires have plenty of clearance and come out easily.

Step 21

Next, position the V2 on your helping hands.

Step 22

Take some Superflex wire and install it on the motor outputs on your V2.

Step 23

Now the tricky part. You must put the small gauge wire into the EP connection pads on the V2. The wires coming from the main board motor outputs go to the motor EP connections on the V2. Look at the diagram on step 1 for reference.

Step 24

The wires coming from the main board power inputs connect to the Regulated EP connections on the V2.

Step 25

Now you can take your battery power outputs and connect them to the V2 on the battery power inputs.

Step 26

This picture is for illustration purposes. This is what your wiring should look like at this point.

Step 27

Next, re-insert your crystal. It might be a little hard to get to once you tape the V2 board to the top deck of the car.

Step 28

Take some double sided tape and place it on the V2 as we did on the picture. Do a double layer on the shorter strip.

Step 29

Stick the V2 board to the top deck.

Step 30

Now you must re-install the motor in your XMOD.

Step 31

Solder the motor to the V2 board motor wires.

Step 32

You are done! Now go get a faster motor and smoke all your friends!.
