Tutorial 1:28 XMODS Evolution Poly Pro Pack Installation

This tutorial will step you through the process of installing an XMOD EVO Poly Pro 2S Pack or the 2S2P Pack. Some of the Photos below were taken with the 2S Pack and others with the 2S2P pack. In my opinion the 2S2P Pack is a much better choice as it delivers twice the current and run time. This is a very simple process requiring only minor modification to the EVO and basic soldering skills.

Step 1 - Required Items

  1. XMOD Evo Lithium Polymer Pro Pack

  2. Solder

  3. Soldering Iron

  4. Needle File Set

  5. Hand Reamer

  6. Hobby Knife Set

  7. Side Cut Nippers

  8. Phillips Screwdriver

  9. Flat Screwdriver

  10. XMOD Evolution Car or Truck

Step 1

Remove the motor wires and pull them aside.

Step 2

Take the Top Cover off by removing crystal and the screws holding it on.

Step 3

Remove the two screws that secure the Stock Battery Tray.

Step 4

You will need to pry the edge up with a flat screwdriver to remove it.

Step 5

Remove the center MainBoard screw and the antenna screw.

Step 6

Unsolder the factory battery wires. They are the largest red and black wires.

Step 7

Remove the stock battery tray. Now face a trash container, take the Stock Battery Tray and hold it firmly in your hand, pull your arm back and then forwards rapidly. At the point that your arm can no longer travel in a forward motion, release your grip on the Stock Battery Tray, depositing it into the trash recepticle.

Now to the the next step.

Step 8

We need to remove these pesky little tabs since they are in our way.

Step 9

This is where the Side Cut Nippers come into play.

Step 10

File the rough edges down with the flat needle file. If you don't have one of these handy Needle File Sets, you really need one. They come in handy very often.

Step 11

Next you need to cut a hole in the Top Cover for the Board Harness to protrude through. Use your Hobby Knife for this operation.

Step 12

Ream this hole out with a hand reamer. You can do this without a reamer but the reamer yields a nice round hole.

Step 13

Make the hole large enough so you can just squeeze the Pro-Plug through the top cover as shown.

Step 14

Lift the MainBoard up in the rear and rest it on the plastic tab as shown.

Step 15

Apply a dollop of solder to each of the power input wire pads.

Step 16

Solder the Board Harness as shown, with the positive on the drivers side. You want a slight tilt forwards.

Step 17

This is what it should look like when you are done.

Step 18

A closer look at the solder joints.

Step 19

Put the MainBoard back in place and screw it down.

Step 20

We now need to remove some material to make room for the Board Harness.

Cut from the center to the outside as shown using your Hobby Knife and then cut the resulting tabs off using your Side Cut Nippers.

Be very careful here, it is very easy to cut yourself. Remember to always cut away from yourself.

Step 21

This is what it should look like when complete.

Step 22

This is why you made the hole large enough for the Pro-Plug.

Step 23

Now you can secure the top cover again.

Step 24

You can now attach the Motor Wires again.

If it were me, I would be doing an EVO Motor Wire Upgrade here as well.

Step 25

This is the antenna screw. Without the antenna to space it up it will protrude through the chassis like this. Be sure to back it out so that it does not stick into your battery pack.

Step 26

Grab your EVO Poly Dual or Poly Quad Pro Kit.

Step 27

Using the Hobby Knife lift the SuperStick Tape.

A note about this tape, it is very strong and will not come loose easily so make sure you get it right the first time.

Step 28

Mount the batteries as far forward as possible while allowing room for the wires. The power wires will pass up through the passenger side wheel well with the 2S2P Pack and the driver side wheel well with the 2S Pack.

Step 29

Here you can see the proper cell placement. Notice the amount of ground clearance you get with our Poly Pro Pack - 2S2P.

Very sexy!

Step 30

If your steering servo does not center when you switch the car on, immediately disconnect the Pro Plug and check your work. Feel the cells when you first plug the pack in and if the cells become hot, disconnect them immediately because a short is present.

Step 31

With the harness plugged in you should have plenty of wheel clearance. This is the 2S Pack pictured, the harness for the 2S2P Pack will be on the passenger side.

Now slap the body on and go spank your friends, because you are done!
