Furthermore, our entire data center is protected behind multiple firewalls and is setup using industry standard security best practices. One of the sister companies of AtomicMods.com is Truewater, a full service IT consulting firm. Truewater is trusted to fully manage network security and other aspects of network administration for hundreds of companies throughout the southwest region. Truewater was a big help setting up the network and the layered security that the AtomicMods.com e-commerce system relies on.

Technical Questions

Did you use Front Page or something like that to build your site?
No, the AtomicMods.com site has hundreds of pages and managing each one individually would be impractical. We use a .NET database driven system that generates content dynamically from a SQL database and presents it through a web interface.

Where do you host your site?
We host our site internally. The servers live in a dedicated room which has separate air conditioning kept at 65 degrees. The room has a huge battery backup and power conditioning system to keep the equipment safe. We have a dedicated T1 just for the AtomicMods.com web server with its own Cisco firewall. We use a second T1 for our own web access. The room is right across from the shop and you can actually see a few of the servers through the window on the ShopCam. Use the source to select 'servers' during the day when the Shop Door is open.

I noticed your videos were hosted elsewhere, why is this?
Every video gets downloaded about 15 times a day, which generates about 200 Gigabytes of data transfer per month. If we hosted this on our server, it would eat up all of our bandwidth and the site would be very slow. That is why the videos live at http://video.atomicmods.com.

What kind of server do you have?
We actually have seven servers in our rack and they are all Dell 2650s or 2850s with dual 3GHZ Zeon processors, 2-4 gigabytes of RAM, SCSI Ultra 320 hard drives in a raid 5 configurations with dual hot-swap power supplies. There is an internal gigabit backbone between all the servers as well as fully automated antivirus and backup services.

What do all of those servers do?
There are two web servers, an SQL server, a mail server, a file storage server, a backup and A/V server, an ISA server.

Why do you have so many servers?
We use a modular approach so if one server goes down the impact is minimal. The end goal is to keep things running so you can access it reliably.
