Profile - Jacob Feinstein

Say hello to Jacob Feinstein, proud member of Team AtomicMods. Jacob has been interested in R/C cars since he was 8 years old, when he would spend countless hours playing with toy store-bought cars that his father would buy for him.

Jacob started racing 1:10 scale nitro touring cars when he was 13, finishing top three within the first couple of club races he attended. Soon after him and his father realized that they were far more fond of electric racing, and switched to 1/10 scale electric touring cars. He again placed in the top three within his first couple of events, but the Feinstein’s were always held back by old, low quality machinery.

It was then that a close friend to Jacob told him about XMODs and how much he was really enjoying it. He then proceeded to persuade his father to buy him a Mini-Z MR-01 for Chanukah.

Quickly they found that Mini-Z was their favorite class to run because of ease of maintenance and parts accessibility. Soon afterwards Jacob started participating in the bi-weekly Mini-Z club races, organized by Team Houston Radio Control Racing. In just his first race out, he came in second overall. The people with which he was racing were some of the nicest folks he had ever met so both Jacob and his father really enjoyed the atmosphere as well.

Soon after his arrival to the Mini-Z scene, Jacob met Cristian Tabush, an extremely quick guy who assisted Jacob and his dad with set-up knowledge and driving advice. This is when Jacob’s talent started to rise week in, week out.

The first big race he participated in was the 2005 PN World Cup Texas Regional. Jacob qualified second behind Cristian in the Modified class, but after some bad luck in the main he finished fourth overall. The next year at the 2006 PN World Cup Texas Regional Jacob TQ’d and won the 2WD Stock class, giving him his first ever regional title.

With his newfound race pace Jacob and his father drove to the 2006 PN Mini-Z World Cup in Enfield, Connecticut- 2400 miles away from Texas in a mere 48 hrs. Quite exhausted after arriving the night before practice at 2:00am, Jacob could not sleep anyways due to the excitement.

The first day of practice went fine for Jacob, but he was not quite on pace at the beginning of the weekend as the track had very little grip. As the track got quicker, Jacob doubled that and took it up another notch. After the first day, he was Top Qualifier in the Pan Car Class and near the top in 2wd stock. On the last round of qualifying Jacob took the Top Spot in 2wd stock and never looked back in the class as well.

The mains went extra smooth for Jacob easily winning both the Pan Car Class and 2wd Stock by a considerable margin. He says to this day this was one of his coolest experiences ever.

If there is one thing we can say about this “kiddo,” it’s that much more is coming from him. He currently races in Houston, Texas along with the majority of Team AtomicMods at their newly-founded test facility. He just recently won the 2007 PN Racing Mini-Z World Cup U.S. Southern Regional Formula 1 and Modified Mini-Z classes amongst the likes of Cristian Tabush and Robert aka “Frank” Rocha.
