KO Modules Galore
One of the best things about the Helios is the flexibility. I have one radio and run all of my cars with it just by changing out the module and selecting one of the 9 memory positions which remember all of my trims and setup information. There are several different modules for the EX-10 Helios. If you run a Mini-Z you will want the 27MHz AM Mini-Z Module, which can also be used for the Micro-T, the Mini-T, RC18T and any other 27MHz AM RC car or truck. If you are running the Pan Car class, which allows the use of the Adband board, you pop in the
Adband module. For a 1:18th or larger cars where you have the option to upgrade to FM you simply purchase the FM Module. For the ultimate in performance, range, and glitch free operation, you can move up to the
Spectrum Module.
KO AD Band Mini-Z Conversion Set
So what's with the
Mini-Z AD Band Conversion Set? It is a direct replacement board for the Mini-Z MR-01, MR-02 or AWD with a compatible module for the EX-10 Helios. With the AD Band system, all communication between the radio and the board are digital and FM. That's a big step up from analog AM. Digital FM is faster to respond and nearly interference free. We are beginning to see the 3010 FETs on some of the Mini-Z ReadySets, and they make a big difference in performance. The AD Board has four 3010 FETs instead of two, making it a real monster that can handle the very hottest motors without breaking a sweat. There is a pair of 3010 FETs on the bottom and another pair on the top of the board which allows the FETs to run even cooler since they are not stacked and all have good airflow. And if all that isn't enough, the AD Board even has a small connector on it for programming the speed control, the servo and steering rates from your PC! These are legal in the Pan Car class in most clubs, and are a truly amazing upgrade.
KO Software
The EX-10 Helios has some amazing capabilities, which are all available from the radio menu, but it is a lot easier to program it from your PC with the PC Interface (currently sold out). This is how I generally program mine, and it allows a graphical interface to the functions and features. The same software allows you to program the AD Board.
KO Tweaks and Bling Bling
The fit and finish is second to none and the feel of the radio is solid and well balanced. With options like the
Multi Angle Wheel Extension and the
Larger Grip Set you can customize it further, or just add some bling with the
Colored Grip Sets and
Gold Screws which I added to mine. I also popped off the wheel cover which exposes a sweet looking 5 star wheel underneath. I then replaced the original screw with a high tech looking Alan head screw. I've been thinking about getting a gold tooth to match my gold screws, what do you think?
One Radio to Rule Them All
If you want the absolute trickest R/C car radio system on the planet, pick up the
EX-10 Helios C2 Limited Edition, which comes with all the upgrades as well as a special billet steering wheel with mechanical stops to reduce travel. There were only 200 of these brought into the USA, and we have 4 of them presently.
